by Tịnh Bối for everyone
Vinh Nghiem pagoda was founded in the 11th century. It was a learning center for Buddhists of the Bamboo Forest (Truc Lam) Zen tradition of Vietnam. It is located in Bac Giang, a rural community about an hour by car from Hanoi. All statues in this temple are wooden and handcarved by local artists centuries ago. Outside the temple is a small cemetery with stupas containing the remaining of passing monks (as seen in the last photo).

The wood carving is so graceful - beautiful.

You certainly have been getting around. Did you fly to the north - or take a train? Or motorbike? :))

Lily,
Yes, I am enjoying every minute of it. Yes, it is me in the photo. I had no other photo that shows the main courtyard of the temple, that is why I had to post a picture with me inside.

Peter,
I flew to the North. No more trains, motorbikes or water buffalos for me, hehe.

Stan,
Thanks.

I am ok, Ingy. All this travel begins to wear on me, but I won't be home until August 28. Longing for home now....
